Video on Copyright: Everything is a Remix

I found this interesting video on copyright and it is well worth watching. As I am in the flow I am going to just blatantly copy part of the text underneath the video:

Our system of law doesn’t acknowledge the derivative nature of creativity. Instead, ideas are regarded as property, as unique and original lots with distinct boundaries. But ideas aren’t so tidy. They’re layered, they’re interwoven, they’re tangled. And when the system conflicts with the reality… the system starts to fail.

If you liked this video (and others in the series) you can support the makers next project “This is Not a Conspiracy Theory” on KickStarter.

Larry Lessig on laws that choke creativity or why it is essential to rethink copyright

Harvard professor Larry Lessig is an authority on copyright issues, with a vision for reconciling creative freedom with marketplace competition.

He cites John Philip Sousa, celestial copyrights and the “ASCAP cartel” in his argument for reviving our creative culture.

It is about time to rethink copyright!
